To assist the council staff with its daily operations, COFONA Inc. donated several computer systems to the Town Council. Upgrading the Council’s computer operations will help the municipality improve its service to the general public and improve its workers’ satisfaction. Ms. Marva Gordon, who was in Guyana at the time, spearheaded the computer upgrading project and provided the necessary training to the New Amsterdam town council staff members. The Town Council and staff are very much appreciative of Ms. Gordon’s contribution to their professional development.

Improving Garbage Collection and Solid Waste Disposal
(January 2011)

One of the first projects identified for assistance focused on improving garbage collection and the management of solid waste in the town. To help alleviate the problem COFONA donated tools, supplies and implements to assist with solid waste management. Soon after, the Town Council acquired its own Backhoe and, more recently, the regional chair donated a dumpster truck both of which are now operational. While the collection of garbage in the town has improved, more needs to be done to ensure the needs of the community and residents are met.
