The UG Institute for Distance and Continuing Education, New Amsterdam branch, will soon receive eight (8) Dell computers from COFONA (NY). Ms. Janice John, the current Resident Tutor of the Institute, was in New York to receive the computers at a recent COFONA general meeting. According to Ms. John, these additional systems would boost the complement of computers at IDCE to 17. The computers are used to train students in various certificate and diploma programs. The Institute would like to expand its program offerings but is hampered by the lack of sufficient technologies available at the Center.

Ms. Janice John, who heads the Institute, spent two weeks at the City University of New York (City College campus) investigating programs that offer training for professionals who manage schools and programs for Students with Disabilities.  Dr. Leonard Lewis, Director of the Learning & Technology Resource Center, School of Education, at City College, was responsible for planning the program to accommodate Ms. John’s visit to the College.  Ms. John hopes her visit will explore opportunities for institutional collaboration that would benefit educational programs in New Amsterdam.
